Project Description
Built in the 1950s, the North End Project had good bones and plenty of charm; our job was to make sure none of it got designed away. Building on an early moodboard by Sparrow Interiors, Gianna and Kairos shaped the design alongside the homeowner, mixing old-school character with a few unexpected twists. Walnut, matte soapstone, handmade zellige, and classic 4x4 tile keep one foot firmly in the past. Then things get a little more fun: a mudroom with a deep Aegean blue floor, dramatic Ijen Blue quartzite, sculptural sconces, and oversized penny tile that feel familiar—but not quite. Original and refinished hardwood happily mingle throughout. Nothing takes itself too seriously, nothing feels too new, and yet it all belongs together.
Project Highlights
• Transformed approximately 775 square feet of garage and existing space into a primary suite, ensuite bath, walk-in closet, office, mudroom, utility room, and remodeled kitchen. • Reconfigured the existing structure with new walls, openings, structural beam work, windows, and building systems to create comfortable and functional finished living space. • Seamlessly integrated the conversion with the original 1950s home by continuing its brick, siding, trim, doors, and architectural character inside and out. • Brought warmth to the kitchen with natural walnut cabinetry, matte soapstone, handmade Terra Rosa zellige tile, and a statement Stone Blue AGA range. • Created a distinctive primary bath featuring Ijen Blue quartzite, Midnight Tide 4x4 tile, oversized blue penny tile, aged brass fixtures, and a curbless shower. • Added personality and function to the mudroom with Aegean blue hex tile, oak cabinetry, soapstone surfaces, and thoughtfully integrated laundry and utility spaces. • Blended original and refinished hardwood, period-inspired materials, custom details, and modern craftsmanship so the new spaces feel original to the home.
