Project Description
Originally a compartmentalized mid-century home, Open by Design | Mid-Century Modern Reimagined transformed the main floor into an open, light-filled home designed for family, entertaining, and breathtaking Puget Sound views while honoring the home's architectural character. The renovation was created for homeowners who own local restaurants, including one who is a professional chef, and celebrates cooking, connection, and gathering. The design created a cohesive, highly functional living space, and significant structural, electrical, and mechanical upgrades were implemented to bring the home up to date. Custom millwork, sculptural microcement fireplaces, a thoughtfully designed kitchen, and an integrated bar and coffee pantry were carefully crafted to enhance everyday living. Warm walnut cabinetry, site-finished white oak flooring, layered lighting, and refined architectural details bring every space together, creating a timeless environment designed for the way this family lives today.
Project Highlights
• Complete reconfiguration of the main floor to create an open, light-filled layout with improved circulation and enhanced Puget Sound views. • Chef-inspired kitchen featuring custom walnut and matte black cabinetry, a quartz slab backsplash with integrated ledge, and concealed accent lighting, built in shelves for cookbook storage. • Custom bar and coffee pantry with integrated appliances, walnut cabinetry, and layered lighting for everyday and entertaining. • Two fireplaces were transformed with hand-applied microcement, creating sculptural focal points that unify the home's design. • Site-finished solid white oak flooring, custom millwork, wrapped beams, and site-built stair railings provide warmth and architectural continuity throughout. • A striking powder room was created within the footprint of a former entry closet, featuring patterned tile, a floating walnut vanity, and mitered quartz surfaces. • Thoughtful architectural details, layered lighting, and custom craftsmanship create a cohesive design that feels modern, timeless and inviting.
